We Were Promised Jetpacks is an Edinburgh-based foursome that has specialized in indie since 2003, plus toured with the likes of Jimmy Eat World. And if you’ve seen Hall Pass, One Tree Hill or Sons of Anarchy, you’ve probably heard their music playing in the background.
WWPJ played at the Bowery Ballroom on May 31 to a full house, beginning the show with “It’s Thunder and It’s Lightning,” to the delight of every bearded hipster in attendance… and myself. The set only lasted about an hour because, according to front man and singer Adam Thompson, he was “absolutely baggered” halfway through the set. Although I probably should’ve been disappointed, Thompson’s reasoning made it okay: the band hadn’t performed for a month together because drummer Darren Lackie had gone on a Disney vacation with his fiancée. And he met her in New York at the Bowery Ballroom, following one of their shows, several years prior. #romance
